How to get noticed and get hired!

In an age, where companies receive hundreds of CVs for one role, the job market is heating up to Saharan conditions. So how do we get seen above the cacophony of competitors and friends?

In recent years, we have read articles about creatives producing witty, visually and physically innovative CVs. Inevitably, they stride directly through great company office doors. These candidates are usually graphic designers and mobile designers. What about the rest of us?

What demonstrable and useful traits could an account executive, or marketing manager illustrate by delivering their CV on a milk carton?

Those who didn’t study at Oxford; gain a prestigious internship, or know Bill Gates second cousin, may find it rather difficult to illustrate their abilities and worth on paper.

Right now, there are 1. 91 million unemployed people in England, according to the Office for National Statistics. But don’t lose hope, many have demonstrated their soft and hard skills to win a job, better than what they had initially set out to get.

Jobless Paddy, an Irish candidate used the last of his savings to set up a billboard displaying his CV. He received twenty job offers, but in a twist of fate, he soon began working for Paddy Power.

A PR and social media consultant produced an interactive video CV, to showcase his knowledge of connecting with audiences. He accepted a job before the public even became aware of his visionary tactic. Soon after, he decided that he was ready to utilise his skills and work for himself.

One HR manager sent a giant biscuit to a company, with her name on it. Aside from feeding the entire department for weeks, she illustrated her baking ability and symbolically her ability to satisfy employees with non-monetary rewards.

This phenomenon has captured the imagination of many hopefuls, unfortunately some have not been so successful. Eccentrics have graced offices with bizarre practices from: tarot card readings, wearing clown attire, singing alongside guitar to climbing office-building roofs. People may have become a little jaded by mountains of CVs but they still want to keep a steady pulse.

When crafting a CV idea of your own, you should illustrate a skill or trait that is beneficial to a company. Secondly, you should keep in mind the corporate culture of the company itself.

You could send companies a digital CV containing clips of your accomplishments, this is particularly easy with drag and drop platforms like Wix. Video CVs can also be uploaded onto platforms like LinkedIn. This could be used in a vast array of industries. Salt would love to experience your original CVs.

People are more responsive to their names than, “To whom it may concern”. Be mindful of the name of recruiter, who will be dealing with your application. Recruiters appreciate recognition, just as you do.
