Position: Senior Commercial Property Underwriter

Location: Johannesburg

Our client, one of South Africa’s leading general insurers is seeking a Commercial Property Underwriting Manager to join their dynamic team in the Commercial Underwriting Department.

The individual is required to fulfil all Senior Property Underwriting functions to ensure the business’s Commercial Property Portfolio achieves its profit and growth targets within the parameters of our risk appetite, as determined by the Board. This role reports to the Manager: Commercial Property Underwriting

Responsibilities:

• Make underwriting decisions for commercial property portfolio
• Review and enhance underwriting mandates of other team members
• Train and upskill staff on property underwriting
• Manage various aspects of the property portfolio for profit, growth and adherence to underwriting standards
• Develop new insurance covers and products
• Maintain policy wordings and regulatory requirements
• Determine appropriate rating structures for commercial property sections
• Interact and assist brokers and partners with underwriting queries
• Provide excellent service delivery and technical underwriting skills

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma
• 10+ years experience in commercial underwriting with property underwriting expertise
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and advanced computer literacy
