Digital Accessibility Consultant

Contract Length: 6 months (likely to extend)

Day Rate: $700-900

Working Arrangements: Hybrid

The Company:

A large financial services organisation based in Melbourne CBD are looking for a Senior Digital Accessibility Specialist to join their team on an initial 6 month day rate contract.

This Digital Accessibility Consultant role will be mostly remote, with 2 days a week in the office.

Role Responsibilities:

• Review designs for accessibility and provide feedback
• Write accessibility requirements and acceptance criteria in user stories
• Support Agile squads with accessibility guidance and support
• Providing engineering team with accessibility guidance and support
• Attend relevant Agile ceremonies
• Testing for accessibility with assistive technologies

Core competencies:

• Ability to deal with highly ambiguous environments, provide structure and simplify complex problems
• Ability to take complete ownership and accountability and drive outcomes
• Understanding of relevant legislation, governance, regulatory and compliance requirements
• Ability to drive out options and solutions when dealing with problem spaces
• Willingness to learn and challenge processes to improve efficiency
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team

Technical Skills & Experience:

• 4+ years’ accessibility experience
• Expert knowledge of WCAG 2.x guidelines and techniques
• Solid understanding of WAI-ARIA best practices and implementation in complex user interfaces
• Familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers)
• Knowledge of inclusive design practices, technical accessibility and digital accessibility best practices
• Able to identify inaccessible features of visual and interaction design
• Able to support accessible product development from design through development to quality testing
• Experience testing accessibility on multiple platforms (desktop, tablet, iOS, Android)
