Data Scientist Contract

Data Scientist | Contract | 12 months | Hybrid/Flex working

My client, a government organisation, is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to help them solve some complex problems to better automate their services. This is to work across a very large, fully funded, years long programme of work.

Great opportunity to work with the new generation of high-performance real time parallel Data Warehousing and Big Data Solutions.

Come and join one of the largest Data Science practices in New Zealand, with 90 other ‘unicorns’ within the data and analytics team. Work from home 3 days a week (once they’re back in the office) and have good flexibility within that.

Role Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical design, development and implementation of robust Data Science and Artificial Intelligence capabilities
• Create, train and deploy predictive analytics models that help solve real world problems
• Deploying on an Azure data platform
• Work closely with your Data Engineer to help deliver projects towards the larger programme of work
• Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the stakeholders and develop and maintain state-of-the-art statistical and machine learning models.

Required Skills:

• Strong experience in building and deploying predictive analytics models using machine learning techniques
• Experience in developing class-leading algorithms to drive commercial outcomes
• Excellent knowledge in applied statistics, distributions, statistical testing, data mining, feature engineering, model interpretability, machine learning & deep learning models
• Excellent coding skills using common data science toolkits including Python
• Experience with Azure, Data Factory and Databricks are highly advantageous!!
• Proven commercial experience in statistical and machine learning modelling, with experience manipulating and ‘making sense’ of big data from disparate systems
• Independent – can work on your own with little guidance
