Accessibility Design Specialist

We’re partnering with a major financial institution to find an experienced Inclusive Designer (Accessibility Design Specialist) to step into a Principal-level role supporting their enterprise design system.

This is a contract opportunity designed to backfill a key team member on extended leave-while also helping meet growing demand from design, product, and engineering teams for expert accessibility and inclusive design guidance.

If you’re passionate about building inclusive digital experiences, know your way around WCAG 2.2 AA, and love working at the intersection of design, engineering, and quality testing-this role is for you.

The Opportunity

You’ll be the go-to expert within the design systems team-leading inclusive design reviews, advising on accessibility risk mitigation, and embedding best practices across the delivery pipeline. You’ll work hands-on across tools like Figma, Storybook, and Confluence, and collaborate closely with quality engineering, accessibility testers, and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead accessibility and inclusive design practices within a system-level design team
• Champion and evolve inclusive design standards across product and engineering teams
• Provide hands-on support for accessibility-related tickets and issues
• Partner with testers to run screen reader audits, sit-based testing, and validate design token structures
• Update documentation and system guidelines to ensure inclusive design is embedded throughout
• Educate and influence cross-functional teams to adopt inclusive patterns and workflows

Success Looks Like:

• Updated inclusive design standards published in Storybook
• Reduction in accessibility escalations from delivery teams
• Strong alignment between design, engineering, and QA on inclusive implementation
• Clear, actionable documentation that reduces friction and improves adoption

What You Bring:

• Deep expertise in WCAG 2.2 AA and accessibility auditing tools
• Strong hands-on experience in Figma (design systems & components), Storybook, and Confluence
• Confidence working directly with engineers and QA testers to resolve real-world accessibility issues
• Strong understanding of design tokens and scalable design system infrastructure
• Experience in enterprise or regulated environments a plus
• A self-starter who thrives in complex, fast-moving teams
