What you’ll be doing?

• This role reports to the Technology Manager and it has no direct reports, it’s a ‘Lead’ role because you’ll be leading application security practices and uplifting the application security capabilities of the university, contributing at the hands-on ‘architect’ level (being able to contribute to architecture and identifying new improvement areas in the application security environment).
• Bridging the gap between the Applications Team and the Cyber Security Team, providing expert guidance and leadership on secure development practices, including hands-on set-up and management of application security tooling.
• Leading the capability uplift of security across application teams
• Promoting a culture of application security across the university and delivering application development training with respect to security
• Promoting awareness of emerging cyber security threats
• Developing and enhancing application security metrics

What you’ll bring?

• Proven experience in an application security related role, ideally with a background before this in Software Engineering
• Demonstrated experience in implementing and enhancing secure development practices within an organisation
• Experience integrating application security tooling into CI/CD pipelines
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to go with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. You’re able to take Applications Teams, the Cyber Security Team, and various other internal and external stakeholders on the application security capability uplift journey at the university
• Strong governance, risk and compliance fundamentals as they relate to cyber security
• Nice to Have – AWS and Azure security knowledge
• Nice to Have – Relevant industry certifications such as SANS certifications, CEH, OSCP, OWASP, ISO 27001
