Software Development Manager (Ottawa – Hybrid)

As a Software Development Manager, you will be overseeing small, highly focused teams of developers employing leading edge technologies. You are an experienced Software Developer who has grown into a people leader over the many years of experience gained throughout your career. You are team oriented, a natural mentor, and understand day-to-day operations to lead a team of Software Developers.

The ideal candidate will be collaborating with product owners, software developers, UI/UX designers and data scientists to develop and maintain the next generation of our solutions. These solutions leverage IoT and Machine Learning to revolutionize the way we use concrete, while reducing its impact on our climate.

The work location for this role is in Ottawa, and they are open to remote candidates. Their preference would be a candidate who can work in a hybrid environment both remotely and in person.

Responsibilities:

* Lead and inspire a software development team, providing guidance, mentorship and performance feedback.
* Drive the end-to-end software development life cycle, from planning and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
* Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the development team.
* Identify and mitigate risks associated with software development projects.
* Provide guidance on technical decisions within the team, working closely with the development team to guide the technological implementation.
* Remove roadblocks, advise and escalate issues to the Director as needed.
* Establish and maintain standards and best practices to ensure team success.
* Responsible for hiring, onboarding, managing, and developing a talented group of developers.

Requirements & Experience:

* Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
* 2+ years leading software development teams producing SaaS software.
* 8+ years proven experience in software development, with a focus on SaaS products.
* Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
* Solid understanding of software development methodologies, agile practices, and DevOps principles.
* Proficiency in programming languages such as React, and Node.
* Experience with the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
