Senior Mainframe Engineer – Contract

Senior Mainframe Engineer | 8-Month Contract | Canada CST

We are working with a leading financial services firm known for its long-standing commitment to personalized investment strategies and innovative technology solutions. They are seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer to join their team and play a critical role in enhancing and maintaining their core mainframe systems.

This role is ideal for someone with strong COBOL expertise and a solid understanding of secure backend services, API design, and event-driven programming. Preference will be given to candidates with Java coding experience alongside their mainframe skills.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
* Conduct code reviews to ensure best practices and maintain high-quality standards.
* Deploy changes to production while ensuring system stability.
* Collaborate across teams, including DevOps and QA, to optimize workflows.
* Participate in SCRUM ceremonies, contributing to Agile development processes.
* Estimate and plan development tasks to align with business needs.
* Mentor junior developers and share best practices.
* Analyze and understand existing code to drive enhancements and improvements.

Requirements

* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field (Master’s preferred).
* 6+ years of development experience in mainframe environments.
* Strong background in COBOL, JCL, CICS, and DB2.
* Knowledge of secure backend services, API design, data modeling, and event-driven programming.
* Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) is a plus.
* Experience working within Agile frameworks and participating in SCRUM ceremonies.
* Nice-to-have skills: Python, Linux, Java (preference given to candidates with Java experience).
* Financial services experience, particularly in wealth management, is a plus but not mandatory.
