My client is looking for a dynamic and results-oriented Oil & Gas Trader to join their trading team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of global oil and gas markets, along with the ability to execute trading strategies, manage risk, and maximize profits. The Oil & Gas Trader will be responsible for buying and selling oil and gas products, managing market exposure, and identifying trading opportunities. This role requires a proactive, analytical, and market-savvy professional who thrives in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Analysis and Strategy Development:
- Monitor and analyze global oil and gas markets, including pricing trends, supply and demand factors, geopolitical events, and economic indicators.
- Develop and implement trading strategies based on market insights and risk appetite.
- Evaluate market conditions and adjust trading strategies accordingly to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
Trade Execution:
- Buy and sell crude oil, refined products, natural gas, and other related commodities in both physical and financial markets.
- Execute trades across various trading platforms and instruments (spot, futures, forwards, options).
- Manage daily trading activities, ensuring all transactions are executed accurately and efficiently.
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and manage risk associated with trading activities, including market risk, credit risk, and operational risk.
- Implement hedging strategies to mitigate risk and protect trading positions from adverse market movements.
- Ensure compliance with internal risk management guidelines and external regulatory requirements.
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, buyers, brokers, financial institutions, and market participants.
- Negotiate contracts and terms with counterparties to achieve favorable trade conditions.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as finance, operations, and logistics to ensure smooth execution of trades.
Portfolio Management:
- Manage and optimize a portfolio of oil and gas assets, balancing risk, return, and liquidity requirements.
- Monitor positions and adjust strategies to align with market conditions and business objectives.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on trading performance and portfolio status.
Market Intelligence and Reporting:
- Gather market intelligence, including industry news, market forecasts, and competitor activity.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on trading performance, market trends, and risk exposure to senior management.
- Participate in regular market meetings and discussions to share insights and contribute to strategy formulation.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory frameworks, including trading regulations, financial reporting, and internal compliance policies.
- Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting the oil and gas markets.
- Maintain accurate records of all trades, transactions, and relevant documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
- years of experience in oil & gas trading, commodity trading, or a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of the global oil and gas markets, pricing mechanisms, and trading platforms.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret market data and make informed trading decisions.
- Proven ability to manage risk and execute trades effectively in a volatile market environment.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Proficiency in trading software, financial modeling, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong understanding of market regulations and compliance standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or MBA) in Finance, Economics, or related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, or certifications in commodity trading).
- Experience with risk management tools and trading algorithms.
- Network of industry contacts and an established reputation within the trading community.
