We are seeking an experienced Medical Coder to join our clients team on a fixed-term contract (6-12 months) in Sydney. This role has the potential to transition into a permanent position. If you have strong experience in coding within a public or private hospital setting and have a sound understanding of anatomy and physiology, we want to hear from you!

Role Overview:

As a Medical Coder, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely coding of medical data for billing and reporting purposes. You will be expected to meet month-end deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately code medical records using ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and ACS, in compliance with hospital and Medicare guidelines.
  • Work with a broad case mix to ensure correct categorisation, billing, and compliance with the Australian Medicare Benefits Schedule under the Diagnostic Imaging Services rules.
  • Ensure all data processed through the Radiology Information System (RIS) is categorised by modality type (CR, CT, MR, US, NM, PT) for each Accession.
  • Manage a high volume of cases, ensuring all coding is completed within the required month-end deadlines, with all tasks finalised by WD+1.
  • Complete the first day of the month’s studies to facilitate radiology pay by WD+2.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely reporting and meet deadlines, with flexibility to work additional hours as needed.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: 3-5 years of coding experience in a hospital environment, with preference for public hospital experience due to the complexity of cases. Private hospital experience will also be considered.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology is essential.
  • Skills: Proficiency in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. Strong intermediate skills in Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility: Must be flexible with working hours to meet deadlines, particularly around month-end.
  • Work Model: Hybrid working model (2 days in-office per week, or as required for training; may be more initially). Finance team typically in-office on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Full-Time Availability: We prefer full-time hours, but we are willing to consider a condensed workweek (e.g., 5 days in 4) for the right candidate.
