Seeking a Senior Project Manager to Build the Control Room of the Future

About the Organization

Our client is the market operator for Australia’s electricity and gas markets. We are responsible for ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of these markets, as well as for the planning and development of the future energy system.

About the Role

Seeking a Senior Project Manager (PM) to work on our groundbreaking project to create the control room of the future. This ambitious initiative will transform how we manage the Australian energy system, ensuring its continued security and reliability as we transition to a more renewable and decentralized future.

Project Overview

The control room of the future will be a secure, flexible, and adaptable environment where systems are integrated, interoperable, and automated. It will enable us to effectively manage the increasingly complex energy system, while also providing us with the tools and capabilities we need to optimize system performance and reduce costs.

Responsibilities

As the Senior PM, you will play a pivotal role in this transformative project. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the project architect and key stakeholders to develop and execute the project plan
  • Managing and controlling project activities to ensure that quality, cost, and time requirements are met
  • Developing and maintaining procedures, policies, and controls to facilitate the achievement of project milestones
  • Providing regular status reports, communications, and advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • Escalating risks and issues to senior management
  • Evaluating the project and providing feedback to stakeholders on lessons learned and opportunities for improvement

Skills and Experience

To excel in this role, you will need to possess a combination of technical and project management expertise, as well as strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Specifically, you should have:

  • A deep understanding of the energy sector, preferably in operations technology
  • Proven experience managing medium to large projects involving information security, technology, and/or specialized engineering components
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • An expert ability to schedule, prioritize, and sequence work
  • The ability to prepare and deliver high-quality communications suitable for management and external stakeholders
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • A tertiary qualification (masters or bachelor’s degree) in an appropriate discipline (business, information technology, computer science, or electrical engineering)
  • Relevant recognized project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, agile)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a project management environment

Duration

6 months, with a strong likelihood of extension for 12 months and beyond during the delivery phase of the project.

Please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience and skills to Cheyenne at cjackson@welovesalt.com and Iman at ikhair@welovesalt.com to get a conversation started!
