My client is a trusted IT consultancy, bringing deep expertise in cloud platforms, data governance, and analytics. Looking for a Senior Data Governance Consultant with a strong focus on Data Quality and Data Testing to lead strategic engagements and ensure data meets business, regulatory, and operational needs.

Role Summary

As a Senior Data Governance Consultant, you will lead the design and implementation of governance frameworks, data quality programs, and validation processes. You’ll work closely with data owners, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to ensure data is trustworthy, well-documented, and fit for purpose across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

🔷 Data Governance Strategy

• Develop and lead the implementation of enterprise data governance frameworks, including policies, standards, stewardship models, and ownership structures.
• Drive adoption of governance practices across cloud data platforms (primarily Azure).
• Facilitate data governance operating models, aligning stakeholders across business and IT.

🔷 Data Quality & Testing

• Define and operationalize data quality frameworks, including dimensions like completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and validity.
• Design data quality rules, scorecards, and dashboards to monitor critical data assets.
• Lead the selection and implementation of data quality tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Great Expectations, Informatica DQ, Talend, Ataccama, or custom frameworks).
• Collaborate with data engineers to embed automated data validation and testing in data pipelines and CI/CD processes.
• Manage data profiling, root cause analysis, and issue resolution processes.

🔷 Metadata & Lineage Management

• Oversee the implementation of metadata repositories, business glossaries, and lineage tracing using tools like Microsoft Purview or Collibra.
• Ensure documentation of critical data elements and enforce consistent definitions.

🔷 Compliance & Risk

• Align data governance and quality initiatives with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).
• Support audits, data protection impact assessments, and internal control reviews.

🔷 Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a trusted advisor to executive sponsors, data stewards, and technical leads.
• Facilitate workshops, training, and governance councils to ensure adoption and alignment.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in data management, with at least 5 years focused on data governance and quality.
• Strong experience implementing data governance programs using frameworks like DAMA-DMBOK or DCAM.
• Hands-on experience with data quality and testing tools (e.g., Great Expectations, dbt tests, Informatica DQ, Talend, Azure Data Factory monitoring).
• Deep familiarity with Microsoft Azure data stack (Azure Data Lake, Synapse, Data Factory, Purview, Databricks).
• Strong SQL and data profiling skills.
• Knowledge of metadata management, MDM, reference data, and data classification practices.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices for automated data testing and pipeline validation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in client-facing or cross-functional settings.

Preferred Certifications:

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer / Azure Data Fundamentals
• Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP – DAMA)
• DCAM Certification
• Great Expectations, dbt or similar data testing framework experience
