SDM Product Tester / Deployment Consultant

Role Overview

The Product Tester / Deployment Consultant for Simple Data Management (SDM) is responsible for ensuring the quality and functionality of the SDM product through comprehensive testing during both development and deployment phases. The role involves designing, executing, and reporting on test cases to validate features, usability, and performance. Working closely with development, product management, and deployment teams, the consultant ensures the product meets the highest standards and delivers a seamless client experience.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development Testing

• Design and execute test plans and test cases for SDM during development phases.
• Conduct manual testing, including functional, regression, integration, and performance testing.
• Identify, document, and report defects using issue tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Zephyr Scale).
• Collaborate with developers to understand features, validate fixes, and troubleshoot issues.
• Provide feedback on functionality and usability, and recommend improvements.
• Participate in Scrum methodology and contribute as a Scrum team member.

Deployment Testing & Customer Support

• Perform testing activities during deployments to ensure smooth, error-free implementation.
• Design and prepare test cases specific to deployments, including data validation and compatibility checks.
• Execute tests to verify production readiness and troubleshoot issues with deployment/client teams.
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and guide clients through test scenarios and issue resolution.
• Log deployment issues and work with developers for timely resolution.

Test Case Development & Maintenance

• Create, maintain, and update comprehensive test cases covering full SDM functionality.
• Ensure test cases remain aligned with product updates and client-specific configurations.
• Leverage automation tools to enhance testing efficiency and contribute to automation frameworks.
• Participate in test planning and provide insights to improve test coverage and QA strategy.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Work closely with product managers and developers to align on business and technical requirements.
• Offer actionable feedback based on test results to enhance product quality and performance.
• Take part in team meetings, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to improve testing practices.
• Demo new features during sprint reviews and stay up to date with the latest testing trends.

Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare detailed test reports with results, metrics, and issue resolutions for stakeholder review.
• Maintain complete documentation of all test cases, results, and findings.
• Contribute to user manuals, deployment guides, and troubleshooting documents.

General

• Reports to the SDM Product Owner.
• Based in South Africa (remote or office-based depending on location).
• Travel may be required.

Required Skills & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Testing Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a similar role with knowledge of manual testing (functional, regression, integration, and performance).
• Technical Skills:
  • Database logic and relational database modelling.
  • SQL proficiency.
  • Experience with tools like JIRA (Zephyr Scale advantageous).
• Attention to Detail: High level of precision in identifying and documenting defects.
• Master Data Management (MDM): Familiarity with MDM principles is a plus.
• Problem Solving: Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting abilities.
• Communication: Clear and effective written and verbal skills.
• Adaptability: Comfortable managing changing requirements and priorities.
• Proactive Collaboration: Ability to lead in identifying issues and drive resolution across teams.
