Data Science Driven, Disruptive, Tech Start-Up
Salary: £45k – £55k
Location: London / Hybrid OR 90% REMOTE
My client is a Data Science Driven, Disruptive, Tech start-up, going through a phase of significant growth. Data and Analytics will continue to play a big part in that, and therefore they’re looking to hire their first Data Analyst/Scientist.
They use advanced data science to provide audiences with the most relevant content in the publishing world.
Using their state-of-the-art proprietary software, they offer a premium online entertainment experience that is tailor-made to their readers.
Their mission is to introduce readers to stories and brands that will truly matter to them.
Their aim is to redefine what it means to be a people-driven
news and entertainment company.
With a turnover of £20 million with £6 million profit (all revenue funded) they own and operate 10 websites, publish their own content and have developed their own tech to optimize the way they drive users to their
site. They don’t rely on SEO at all and acquire traffic via other means (Google, Insta, Tik Tok etc.), whereas other publishers are reliant on Google’s algorithm to drive acquisition.
They scaled rapidly throughout Covid and are very profitable and stable, and although are technically in the Ad-Tech space, are more of a tech company. This role reports into the Head of Monetisation, who’s in charge of all revenue opps. The metrics he would need this person to focus on are things like Yield / Revenue / Return on ad spend / ROI, and working to improving revenue per user without harming their lifetime user relationship.
We therefore need someone who can look at the business from a holistic business perspective, taking control of all data they have and to help them to understand the data assets they have, ones they should acquire and to visualize and automate the way data is used internally.
In this brand new role you have the opportunity to really make data YOUR function. We need people who are interested in using numbers to tell stories for a wide variety of stakeholders cross the business.
You will support Finance, Marketing and Sales – looking at how analytics can give insight into KPI’s such as revenue per session for advertisers, the value of ad spend for user/traffic acquisition for clients as well as owning an Automation Function which will develop over time to help this scaling business operate more efficiently.
As mentioned, they have their own IP – an algorithm which optimises how much clients should bid on ad space for an article to maximise ROI, and contributing, in time, to optimising that.
There could even be a financial element too (if were keen on engaging more technical, modelling skills) – so looking at deriving insights which impact the business focused side of the business.
You will also gain exposure to c-suite help automate large portion of what they do present insights to drive change and improvement.
Ideally we would love people with exposure to the Ad-tech exp as the metrics are highly specialized, but if you feel confident you can get up to speed on this aspect or have relevant experience then we are very open to considering profiles without.
Fundamentally, we’re after a malleable, flexible, super smart Analyst to come in and really add value business wide for this super start-up! This company have a strong culture of nurture and growth, so are very happy to offer raining and support in getting you up to speed too!
Equally, it’s worth noting the are already working with agencies that deliver customer numbers and metrics that are key for the business, so you’re not walking into a completely ‘cold’ data environment, they just need someone to come in and own and grow this area.
The culture is very friendly, flexible and social with drinks and lunch once a week. Quarterly company meet ups, a company wide trip once a year, very learning focused, and internationally focused too.
Their HO is in Vauxhall but all their tech teams are fully remote (they do a ‘tech day’ once a month) so they can also be very flexible in terms of time in office – offering almost a fully remote option.
