Database Administrator duties and responsibilities

• Installing, tuning, and upgrading the infrastructures
• Proactively and regularly making recommendations for database improvements (policies, procedures & standards)
• Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise
• Responding in a timely manner to user-reported errors
• Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access by establishing and maintaining security and integrity controls
• Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of disaster
• Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance
• Suggesting changes and improvements for database maintenance, performance, reliability, and protection
• Regularly liaising with IT project teams including database programmers
• Maintain detailed documentation of database design/architecture & configuration

This position includes participation in the watch duty role (24/7 on call for a total of about 7 to 10 days per month).

Database Administrator requirements

• 3+ years of experience in MongoDB database administration on premise and/or in Microsoft Azure (MongoDB Atlas)
• Hands on experience in the LifeCycle Management of MongoDB (installation, migration, upgrade, patching)
• Hands on experience with building and maintaining MongoDB replica sets and sharded cluster
• Good understanding in Performance Tuning and Query Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Experience on MongoDB scaling across data centres with MongoDB HA strategies, including replica sets and sharding
• Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
• Experience in automating database administration tasks
• Hands on experience with hardening a database
• Experience in Privileged Access Management – authentication mechanisms like LDAP, Kerberos, Active Directory and SAML
• Experience in Python, shell scripting, Ansible playbooks and MongoDB tooling like Mongo Shell, Compass and OpsManager
• Experience working with Linux servers, including proper disk configurations
• Analytical mindset in troubleshooting and resolving database problems
• Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and documentation skills in English
• Team player highly organized with a sense of ownership
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to handle complex situations

Preferred candidates would also meet the following criteria:

• Mongo Certified DBA
• Experience with ServiceNow & Azure DevOps
• Experience with Ansible playbooks
• Experience with other database systems like PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server & Oracle will be considered as an asset
