FAKE candidate CVs, a curse for real recruiters

FAKE candidate CVs are the number 1 killer to every recruiter and yet some recruiters still do it!!! This activity from the worst kind of recruiter you can possibly imagine is a sure-fire way to kill us . How is it even still possible, how do these people get away with it, they must work with other people, does no one think to stop them? I think it’s about time it stops now!

What is a fake candidate CV you might ask yourself? The answer is that it is a fraudulent document that doesn’t represent a real person. A fake CV has only one purpose which is for business development and opening doors for a lazy, ruthless, useless, immoral, and self-centred sales person impersonating a real recruiter.

There are some clear signs for how to spot the kind of person that sends out fake CVs:

1) they’re only interested in quick wins, they are short sighted.

2) they do not consider other people, they have little empathy.

3) they don’t see value in recruitment, they see it only to make a quick buck.

4) they don’t stick around, with short attention spans.

5) they care way too much about what’s in it for them, especially their own pay.

6) they worry too much about what everyone else is doing.

7) they’re not great team players, often bad apples.

8) they’d rob their own mother if they could.

How can you tell if you have received a fake CV? Well obviously, the candidate will somehow not be able to actually interview in person for the job. You will find it difficult to cross reference the candidate against Linked In, Facebook, and other social media sites and CV job boards. Your “pretend recruiter” will now be very interested in working your brief for you and miraculously present a short list of candidates whether you ask for them or not.

There is difference between a fake CV and a candidate not arriving for an interview by the way, this does happen in real life. Let’s provide some more balance, what can we do about it?

Meet your recruiters in person, give them the ability to do their job properly.

Before you book an interview, cross check linked in, Facebook, twitter, stack overflow, GitHub, Creative Pool, dddribble, and other specialist sites relevant to you and double check the profile.

Use an applicant tracking system and take records and notes when recruiting, use can build on this over years.

What to do if you suspect you have received a fake CV?

Contact the police! Seriously, this is fraudulent and it is illegal.

Show and tell the world about the “pretend recruiter” and their company.
