Lead Email Designer – Prestige Retail

Greater London Permanent £30000.00 - £50000.00 per annum

As Lead Email Designer you’ll oversee the design, build and continual improvement of our marketing, triggered and lifecycle email communications.

You will use your creative skills to design emails that are commercially successful, responsive, on brand and consistent. Drawing upon your strong technical skills, you will amend code and build HTML email templates following current industry best practice guidelines. Ensuring all email templates and designs are responsive and maximised for mobile is vital to the success of this role. You will also oversee approvals for all Harrods emails, checking design and code, and lead the email design team.

In addition, you will continually be looking to improve our existing email templates, looking at more

interactive elements to help improve open and click through rates and staying up to date with innovation.

Principal responsibilities:

* Manage and oversee the email design teams output ensuring high standards are maintained.

* Design and build HTML emails ready for deployment through SMC and Acoustic. Must make email client checks and ensure our emails are coded and built to current industry best practice guidelines

* Act as the subject matter expert for email design and build – distribute, communicate and apply best practices and learnings to continually improve results.

* Test and learn – work with CRM on A/B testing to evolve and optimise our emails

* Complete competitor research to help inform continuous improvements to template designs.

* Develop and maintain excellent relationships with all other departments: CRM, Content, Creative to ensure a unified approach to providing an engaging brand experience for the customer.

* Work closely with the project management to ensure deadlines are met.

* Use the latest emerging email innovations to inspire and engage our customer.

* Support and assist the Creative Design Manager, as well as help drive, motivate, give guidance to and lead the more junior members of the team on projects.

* Manage and mentor the Email Designers and Developer, carrying out 1-2-1, appraisals and annual reviews.


* You are passionate about delivering creative solutions that deliver for both the user and the business.

* Meticulous attention to detail and well organised.

* An experienced people manager and comfortable giving direction, feedback and guidance.

* Able to gather and work with insights through analytics, competitor analysis, and user testing to inform our email creative and design

* Ready to learn and understand our email user profiles and key personas.

* Fluent with the Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator) as well as Sketch.

* Have strong technical skills (HTML, CSS).

* A very good understanding of email client constraints, browsers and accessibility guidelines.

* Cross-browser and version compatibility knowledge and development.

* Understanding of designing to accessibility and usability standards.

* You will be calm under pressure, with excellent communication skills and have the ability to deliver high quality work to tight timescales.

* A passion for design is important as well as a keen eye for typography and be up to date with the latest trends.
