Our client has one of the most established, mature and advanced analytics functions in the grocery retail industry. As one of the first major players to embrace and successfully roll out a loyalty card scheme, their heritage in data driven decision making makes for an amazing learning environment.
Working amongst a huge data community, and in turn a specialized analytics function, you have the opportunity to diversify, grow and develop both your technical and softer skills, leveraging their advanced training and development programmes. You will join as an Analytics manager to lead a team of Data Scientists, operating as a hybrid customer analytics and data science expert, to support on a wide variety of projects. Your team sits between the traditional campaign analytics team and their innovative personalisation team, working closely with data engineers to build out the decisioning platform and capabilities, developing algorithms which inform offers for individual customers.
Your team is there to try and understand the customer base to support marketing efforts, building broader business objectives across all brands. The Share of Wallet modelling developed in this team is used in trade driving to increase spend as well as feeding into the ‘optimisation problem’, playing into algorithms, and spitting out actions for singular customers. You will need to be pragmatic in your approach to any problem encountered, answering difficult questions from a customer perspective, which don’t always required a ‘data science’ response. There is a real blend of skills required in this role, as leveraging statistical customer analytics techniques as well as machine learning is important, in trying to figure out the best approach.
Technically they operate a Snowflake environment, leveraging SQL to extract data and R and Python for modelling and statistical analysis, building code and tools. They are also about to implement Microstrategy and Tableau for data visualization.
Experience required:
· Educated to at degree level in a numerate subject: Mathematics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering etc.
· A strong background in customer insight and marketing analytics, including segmentation and modelling
· Skilled in machine learning techniques such as timeseries, clustering, advanced modelling
· Experience of working with cloud based technologies and platforms; Azure, GCP or AWS
· Strong people management and coaching skills
· Demonstrates creativity in problem solving and keen to bring new ideas to the room
· Ability to work with data from multiple sources, including digital, to provide robust solutions and insights
· Advanced programming skills with either Python or R AND SQL
· Passionate about embedding data at the heart of decision making, driving insights led thinking
· Strong skills in stakeholder management and a desire to work in a business facing capacity
