Principal Healthcare System Integration Engineer

Greater London Contract / 6 monts Up to £550 per day + Outside IR35,Fully remote

Healthcare integrations require detailed knowledge of clinical workflows, technical standards, and regulatory compliance. In this senior technical role, you will be hands-on in configuring, scripting, and troubleshooting integrations-primarily using Mirth Connect-while also collaborating with solution architects, clinicians, and operational teams. You will coordinate data flows across a wide range of diagnostic services, ensuring systems interoperate seamlessly to enhance patient outcomes and service efficiency.

Through JavaScript-driven transformations in Mirth Connect, you will enable accurate, timely data sharing throughout our clinical ecosystem. You will also support and guide other engineers on best practices for HL7, DICOM, and potentially FHIR-based workflows. Experience in radiology integrations (e.g. RIS/PACS) is particularly beneficial, though not mandatory

Your success in this role is supported by significant technical and leadership expertise in healthcare or a similarly regulated sector. You likely have:

Extensive Integration Engineering Background

  • A proven history of configuring and optimising Mirth Connect channels, employing JavaScript for HL7, DICOM, and potentially FHIR transformations.
  • Familiarity with XML/JSON for message validation and data handling; experience with radiology systems (e.g. RIS/PACS) is a bonus.

Modern Engineering Practices

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python), agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (Git).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs is desirable, facilitating broader interoperability where needed.

High-Performance & Reliable Data Flows

  • Expertise in scaling solutions for large DICOM images or high-volume HL7 traffic, minimising disruption to clinical services.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • A track record of working effectively with clinical, architectural, and operational teams, integrating diverse insights into your designs.

Mentorship & Coaching

  • Demonstrable aptitude for guiding other engineers, offering best-practice code reviews and strategic advice on data mappings and interface structure.

Security & Governance Awareness

  • A solid understanding of healthcare data protection regulations, patient confidentiality standards, and how these impact system integrations.
