DevOps Engineer | Leeds | 6 months | Puppet | Linux
My client is currently looking for a DevOps Engineer to design and implement applications’ build, release, deployment and configuration activities. You will also be responsible for working within multi-functional teams to gather requirements, evaluating tools, implementing/updating solutions, building and executing test plans, provision environments, application performance reviews, assist migration of legacy systems, and triaging and fixing operational issues.
You will contribute to DevOps culture promotion and aid the transition to DevOps as a best practice. DevOps Engineers must be able to adjust to constant business change; common types of changes include new requirements, evolving goals and strategies, and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
* Transform technical requirements into an effective DevOps tool-chain to enable product delivery, assure and implement deployment strategies and resolve issues to ensure citizen-facing services are repeatable, scalable, resilient and highly available
* Produce comprehensive technical documentation for wider consumption and support product teams to write code that is simple and flexible to build, configure and deploy
* Contribute to community discussions about DevOps best practice within Engineering, make and review decisions to progressively improve decision-making
* Collaborate across teams and liaise with Lead DevOps Engineers and Technical Architects to investigate technical solutions
* Provide coaching and mentoring to Software and DevOps Engineer peers
* Implement a DevOps culture and automation best practices
Essential Skills
* Significant and demonstrable experience of using, operating, patching and securing Linux operating systems like RHEL
* Significant and demonstrable experience of configuration management software like Puppet or Ansible
* Significant and demonstrable experience of scripting languages like BASH, Perl or Python
* Significant and demonstrable experience of deploying, supporting and patching public, cloud-based applications
* Experience of working in a complex, multidisciplinary environment, delivering products within specific timescales and engaging with multiple stakeholders
Desirable skills
* Significant and demonstrable experience of provisioning tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation
* Significant and demonstrable experience with continuous integration and delivery tools like Jenkins
* Significant and demonstrable experience of clustering and load balancing applications and services, like NGINX
* Significant and demonstrable experience working with distributed version control systems like Git
* Significant and demonstrable experience of static code analysis and security tools like SonarQube or Checkmarx
* Significant and demonstrable experience working with collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence and Slack
* Experience of modifying and maintaining systems and code developed by other engineers
* Experience deploying repeatable, scalable, resilient and highly available HTTP services, including APIs and microservices
* Experience with virtualisation and container based technologies like Docker
