CV Requirements
In order to get a Design job, it is helpful to include certain skill sets on your CV. Probably, the three most important design skills are creativity, artistic ability and time management skills. From a more numerical and technical point of view, computer skills (i.e. knowing how to use specialised design software) and analytical skills should be included on every Designer’s CV.
Interview Preparation
A typical Design job interview consists of four parts: experience, portfolio, hard skills, and soft skills. In the first part, the interviewer asks questions about your past experiences and tries to evaluate if you fit into the company culture (e.g. what is your experience with website design?). While talking about your experience, the interviewer will most likely ask questions about your portfolio (e.g. what was the objective of this piece?). While in the third part, some hard skill interview questions will be asked (e.g. how have you used software programme X in your daily work?), the fourth interview part focuses on your soft skills (e.g. what did the team at your prior position look like?).
Educational Requirements
Most Design jobs require a college or university degree. However, some employers rate the practical experiences, demonstrated in the Designers’ portfolio, and prizes as more important than a university degree.
