My client is a well-established and growing engineering and maintenance business based in Whangārei, seeking an experienced Company Accountant or Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function and support the next phase of our growth.

This is a key leadership role, managing a small team and working closely with the wider business to provide accurate financial reporting, compliance, and commercial insight.

The Role

Reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for the end-to-end accounting function, including:

• Overseeing payroll, PAYE, GST, and statutory compliance
• Managing and developing two direct reports within the finance team
• Preparing monthly management accounts, financial reports, and analysis
• Maintaining and optimising our MYOB accounting system
• Managing cash flow, forecasting, and budgeting
• Ensuring accurate financial controls and processes
• Supporting the business with financial insights and continuous improvement initiatives

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Proven experience as a Company Accountant, Finance Manager or Senior Accountant
• Qualified as a CA/CPA or equivalent.
• Strong working knowledge of MYOB
• Solid understanding of NZ payroll, PAYE, GST, and financial reporting requirements
• Experience leading or supervising staff
• An entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to work proactively and think commercially
• Strong attention to detail, organisation, and communication skills
