UI Designer – Design Systems

Job Title: UX/UI Designer (User Experience/User Interface) with Design System focus

Location: 2 days/week in Pall Mall and 1 day/month in Basingstoke

Salary: £55-65k

Salt have partnered with the UK’s best and most trusted fine wine and spirits merchant who are looking to hire a UXUI designer with a focus on building, owning and maintaining their design system.

As an experienced UX/UI designer, you will use your design systems experience to lead strategy to unify UI approach across our client’s ecosystem of digital products (our website, mobile app, customer communications and internal systems).

You will primarily be responsible for creating new patterns, guidelines and documentation, supporting our design team to rapidly build scalable, accessible and on-brand experiences.

You will also collaborate with CX designers to design cross-channel solutions that solve customer problems, delivering pixel perfect designs & flows to development teams.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with a highly engaged customer base of passionate lovers and collectors of wine & spirits. The breadth of your work will cover evolving our proposition, establishing design processes & standards, and designing delightful experiences enabled by our rebuilt technology stack.

Familiarity with the wine & spirits industry is not a pre-requisite, but a curiosity to learn more will be supported, and highly encouraged!

What you will do

* Simplify highly complex user journeys, making it easier for users to find what they’re looking for, through improved information design and strong focus on mobile
* Pair with CX designers to collaboratively deliver cross-channel solutions that solve customer problems, bringing your UX and UI expertise to the table
* Apply wireframing and prototyping techniques to rapidly build & validate responsive experiences
* Apply atomic design principles to create functional, accessible and scalable patterns
* Ensure final designs are on-brand, bringing our luxury & heritage brand to life with a premium aesthetic
* Create engaging assets such as icons, animations and other graphics
* Work closely with developers to ensure your solutions are technically feasible and communicated effectively
* Be responsible for delivering pixel perfect design, from defining detailed specifications for developers, through to QA and launch
* Evangelise design system thinking and best practices within our design team and the wider business
* Work with our marketing & brand team to create guidelines for the unified & consistent expression of our brand across our digital products
* Deliver measured improvements to customer experiences across web, mobile app and internal systems
* Collaborate with external design & development partners

Your Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
* Demonstrable experience building cross device experiences ideally for high-end, luxury brands
* Expert in using Figma to create & maintain pattern libraries that serve both designers & developers
* Experience with building and maintaining mature design systems, and able to shape our strategy to build ours
* Strong understanding of branding and designing for intentional emotive responses
* Expert in creating responsive UI designs, with an understanding of modern platform design standards & frameworks (grid systems, spacing etc)
* Expert understanding of typography, colour, layout and visual design principles
* Experience with designing for accessibility, with a good understanding of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and how to meet these criteria
* Basic understanding of HTML and CSS, enough to understand how development techniques impact design and to help communication with developers
* Ideally some experience incorporating motion into interface design * Experience across the full Software Development Life Cycle
* Some experience building SaaS style products, even if just used internally
* Proficient in conducting competitor analysis across our sector and the luxury market
