The Sales Director is responsible for the strategic direction, commercial growth, and operational excellence of a small but profitable portfolio of events. This includes launching new events, growing existing ones, and ensuring a high-performing, motivated team.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the commercial strategy for the portfolio, ensuring clear positioning and competitive differentiation.
- Identify market trends, growth opportunities, and potential new event launches.
- Prepare and present annual business plans for each project, including budgets, timelines, and growth strategies.
Product & Content Development
- Conduct in-depth market research to understand industry challenges, opportunities, and customer needs.
- Design event concepts and conference programmes that attract top-tier sponsors, exhibitors, and delegates.
- Ensure all events have innovative formats, engaging content, and strong value propositions.
Sales & Revenue Generation
- Define sales strategies, targets, and territories for the portfolio.
- Support high-value sales by engaging directly with key accounts, sponsors, and partners.
- Monitor pipelines in SFDC (Salesforce) and ensure accurate forecasting.
Marketing & Brand Growth
- Oversee multi-channel marketing plans, including digital, social media, partnerships, and PR.
- Ensure data-driven audience acquisition strategies and strong conversion rates.
- Maintain consistent and engaging social media presence to promote events and build brand authority.
Conference & Event Management
- Lead the operational delivery of events to ensure exceptional delegate, sponsor, and exhibitor experiences.
- Oversee conference production, including agenda planning, speaker acquisition, and onsite delivery.
- Ensure compliance with budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performance team.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, set objectives, and provide professional development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Industry Engagement
- Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with industry leaders, associations, and influencers.
- Attend competitor and partner events to network and gather market intelligence.
- Build strategic partnerships to enhance event content and reach.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven track record of commercial event leadership with measurable revenue growth.
- Strong market research and business analysis skills.
- Expertise in sales strategy, sponsorship, and delegate acquisition.
- Solid knowledge of digital marketing channels and audience profiling.
- Conference production expertise, including format innovation and agenda creation.
- Financial management skills, including P&L ownership.
- Excellent copywriting and presentation
- Strong networking and relationship management
- High proficiency in tools such as Salesforce, Sales Navigator, and digital analytics platforms.
- Adept in digital event platforms and technology.
