On 8th August, amidst all the excitement of Singapore national Day, the Salt, a global, award-winning Digital Recruitment Agency Singapore team took the morning out of their working day to fulfil their commitment to supporting communities through our global CSR initiative. Our chosen beneficiary in this case was Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) – a wonderful charity, doing incredible work for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs) in Singapore. MINDS was founded in May 1962 by a group of philanthropists who saw the need to provide equal opportunities for children with intellectual disabilities to receive education and later, to be integrated as contributing and responsible citizens in Singapore.
The Salt team for the day consisted of Sam Baxendale (Regional Director) Robbert Pauli (Tech – Practice lead), Reema Bhullar (Senior Consultant – Marketing) & Prerna Agarwal (Consultant). At the start of the session, we received a briefing for one of the organisers on expectations for the morning – given the following day was National Day, the theme was a ‘Beauty Pageant’ reflecting famous figures in Singapore Society! Following a coffee break and introductions to our team members, we broke out into teams and spent the next hour socialising and organising costumes that reflected all the different famous figures. The pageant itself was fantastically well thought out and executed by the organisers with judges and prizes for the winning individuals and teams. The impact of the event also had a clearly amazing effect on raising the spirits for all members by sharing in the excitement of National day and in promoting social interaction, which hopefully was the extra value we brought to proceedings.
All the attendees were both honoured and humbled at the opportunity to share in the experience with MINDS. The level of care, patience and compassion on display was remarkable – the organisers clearly dedicate their lives to such causes. Sam and the rest of the team only spent the morning, but we sincerely hope that we were able to positively impact the lives of those at MINDS in our own small way. We look forward to the next opportunity to make a positive impact in our community.
MINDS believe that volunteers play a critical role in empowering their clients and promoting inclusion of PWIDs into our society today. If you would like to volunteer with MINDS or find out more about the organisation click here!
