New opportunity for an Senior Database Administrator (Oracle & SQL Server) to join a leading energy regulator committed to ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable energy services across Australia.

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to manage and optimise critical Oracle and SQL Server environments. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong troubleshooting capability, and a proactive approach to performance, security, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Database Administration & Availability – Manage, maintain and support Oracle and SQL Server environments, ensuring high availability, reliability and security.
  2. Performance Optimisation – Monitor database health, tune performance, and resolve bottlenecks across large, complex environments.
  3. Backup, Recovery & Upgrades – Design and manage backup/recovery strategies, execute upgrades, patches and migrations.
  4. Security & Governance – Enforce database security policies, manage user access, contribute to standards and best practices.
  5. Collaboration & Automation – Support application deployments, automate routine tasks (SQL/PowerShell/Python), mentor junior DBAs, and participate in on-call support.

Key Skills & Experience

  1. Extensive DBA Experience – 10+ years administering both Oracle and SQL Server in enterprise environments.
  2. Deep Platform Knowledge – Strong expertise in Oracle (RAC, ASM, Data Guard) and SQL Server (AlwaysOn, mirroring).
  3. Performance & Recovery Specialist – Proven experience in performance tuning, monitoring tools, and backup/recovery strategies.
  4. Strong Technical Capability – Advanced SQL and PL/SQL skills, plus scripting experience (PowerShell, Bash or Python).
  5. Enterprise & Cloud Exposure – Experience with database migrations, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or Oracle Cloud), and working within structured IT environments (e.g. ITIL).
