DIVISIONAL HEAD: GOLF, SPONSORSHIPS & EVENTS
JOHANNESBURG
R800K – R1M p.a
This is an exceptional opportunity for a commercially astute, strategically minded leader to take the helm of a market-leading Golf Division – the engine room behind some of South Africa’s most prestigious tours, tournaments and sponsorship partnerships. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role sits at the intersection of sport, sponsorship and business strategy, with a mandate to grow, protect and elevate a portfolio that touches every corner of South African golf, from the Sunshine Tour to grassroots and disability golf.
At a strategic level, the successful candidate will own the relationship with the sport’s most influential bodies – the Sunshine Tour, Sunshine Ladies Tour, Sunshine Senior Tour, SADGA, SADGB, PGA and Golf RSA – using that standing to open doors and secure new partnerships. They will architect the division’s annual business plan, covering financial targets, resourcing, client retention, new business development and pitch strategy, and will lead, mentor and elevate a team of Senior Golf Managers to translate that strategic direction into results. The role also carries responsibility for presenting the divisional business report at monthly executive leadership meetings, tracking the broader golf landscape for new opportunities and standards, and guaranteeing the overall quality of the division’s offering to clients.
On the sponsorship side, this person will conceptualise commercially sound opportunities across the golf space, build a rights matrix that brings clarity to sponsorship conversations, source new tour sponsorships, manage renewals, and oversee the full implementation of sponsorship rights packages – all underpinned by a genuine discipline around client retention.
The events portfolio is substantial: co-sanctioned professional tournaments, local professional tournaments, golf days, pro-am and charity golf days, the Sunshine Ladies and Sunshine Senior Tournaments, and events for the South African Disabled Golf Association, alongside tournament management across several high-profile club partnerships. This includes full ownership of tournament budget creation, management and reconciliation, sponsorship consulting, growing charity project management as a strategic pillar, directing PR, media and marketing agency relationships, delivering polished tournament reporting, and overseeing procurement, supplier management, broadcast management, financial management and client service management across the board.
On the technical side, the ideal candidate brings strong budgeting capability, including advanced Microsoft Excel skills, the ability to project accurate budgets from supplier quotes, and confident cash flow forecasting, together with a track record of controlling expenditure within approved budgets and coordinating purchase orders, invoices, payments and financial reconciliation. They’ll bring a working command of event protocol and etiquette, meticulous attention to detail, strong time management, sharp problem-solving instincts, excellent verbal and written communication, and proven people management experience.
Personally, this role calls for an effective, collaborative leader who motivates a team toward shared goals, is highly articulate with an approachable and consultative style, and writes with real clarity and polish. It demands strong business, strategic and market acumen, a willingness to travel and work extended hours including weekends when the calendar demands it, and someone who is emotionally grounded, self-motivated, ethical, tactful, reliable, service-orientated, and genuinely strategic and innovative in outlook.
A golfer, or someone with a strong understanding of the game, will have a distinct advantage.
