Engineering Team Lead

Are you an experienced Senior Engineer ready to step confidently into leadership, or an emerging Engineering Manager eager to make your mark? I’m looking for an Engineering Team Lead who can balance strong technical chops with people-first leadership to help us scale a high-performing engineering organisation.

In this hybrid role (approx. 70% leadership / 30% hands-on), you’ll guide a team of 4-6 engineers while staying close to the code. You’ll partner closely with the Head of Engineering to drive technical excellence, operational maturity, and a culture built on trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

💼 What You’ll Do:

👥 Team Leadership & Development:

  • Mentor, coach, and grow engineers across varying seniority levels
  • Run regular 1:1s, provide meaningful feedback, and support career progression
  • Foster a psychologically safe, collaborative, accountable team culture
  • Manage capacity, balance workloads, and safeguard against burnout
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and team-building initiatives
  • Champion engineering best practices and drive continuous improvement

🧩 Technical Direction & Hands-On Delivery:

  • Shape architectural decisions and define technical strategy
  • Review code and uphold high-quality engineering standards
  • Contribute directly to critical technical work (around 30% hands-on)
  • Ensure adherence to engineering principles and sound design patterns
  • Lead by example through clean, scalable, maintainable code

🚀 Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure reliable, performant delivery of features and systems
  • Implement and monitor SLIs/SLOs; participate in on-call rotations
  • Lead incident response and post-mortem improvements
  • Drive automation, testing, and CI/CD best practices

🤝 Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with Product Management to refine requirements and prioritise work
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams on cross-functional initiatives
  • Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders

🔍 What We’re Looking For:

  • 1-2+ years in a tech/team lead role or demonstrated leadership as a senior IC
  • 5-8+ years of hands-on engineering experience (TypeScript/Node.js or similar)
  • Strong full-stack development experience in production environments
  • Solid understanding of architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Strong database, API, and microservices knowledge
  • Experience mentoring junior/mid-level engineers
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and making informed technical decisions
