Project Manager – Customer Applications | Contract | Cape Town Southern Suburbs

About the Role

A leading South African retailer is looking for a mid to senior Project Manager to join their IS Solution Delivery team, supporting the Customer Applications roadmap. This role covers the Loyalty, VAS, Africa VAS, and Clothing portfolios – coordinating across business, technology, and vendor teams to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions through the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Build accurate project plans, manage dependencies and critical paths, and track deliverables in a structured, controlled way
• Maintain a portfolio roadmap and manage multiple workstreams – from complex projects to smaller enhancements – simultaneously
• Drive governance through steering committees, RAID logs, decision logs, and stakeholder status reporting
• Manage business case and CAPEX approval processes with strong budget control and early warning of overruns
• Coordinate delivery across business owners, product owners, IS capability leads, architects, analysts, testers, and external vendors
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with business and delivery teams – responsive, professional, and outcomes-focused
• Manage scope, priorities, risks, issues, and escalation paths across multiple workstreams

Requirements

• 5+ years managing IT or IS business-application projects – retail, loyalty, VAS, payments, or financial services experience preferred
• Proven track record of delivering software projects on time with clear accountability
• Practical knowledge of project management disciplines, SDLC, and application delivery lifecycles
• Experience managing roadmap portfolios, steering committee packs, and project budgets (CAPEX/OPEX)
• Experience coordinating external vendors and cross-functional delivery teams
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Systems, IT, Business, or related field
• PM certification or methodology training (PMBOK, PRINCE2, Agile, Scrum) advantageous
• Proficient in Microsoft 365, Excel-based project tracking, SharePoint, and Teams

Role Details

• Employment type: Contract
• Location: Cape Town (full-time in office)
• Core hours: 09:00 to 15:00 (40 hours per week maximum, excluding lunch)
• Maximum hours: 173 per month (excluding leave and public holidays)
• Note: Support office closes between Christmas and New Year
