The juicy bits: Real technical ownership, platform-scale impact & the chance to shape how millions of users experience digital banking. Own the front end of one of the top teams in the bank.
Overview:
Step into a senior-level frontend leadership role within one of South Africa’s most respected and fast-scaling financial services organisations.
This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned React engineer to own the frontend technical vision across a complex, multi-platform digital ecosystem. You’ll sit at the intersection of architecture, engineering excellence, and business impact – shaping scalable, high-performance user experiences used at massive scale across web and mobile.
This role goes far beyond feature delivery. You’ll be trusted to define long-term frontend strategy, introduce best-in-class engineering practices, and lead teams building robust, future-proof React applications. If you thrive in high-stakes environments where quality, performance, and scalability truly matter, this role offers the scope and influence to make a lasting impact.
This is not a heads-down individual contributor role. You’ll operate as a technical leader and mentor, working closely with engineering leadership, product, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into elegant, maintainable frontend solutions. If you enjoy solving hard problems, modernising systems, and raising the bar for how frontend engineering is done, you’ll feel very at home here.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Frontend Architecture & Strategy:
Define and drive the long-term technical vision for React-based applications, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and support for white-label and multi-platform use cases.
Quality & Performance Engineering:
Design and implement robust quality systems with a focus on high test coverage (80%+), low crash rates, and production stability.
UI/UX Unification:
Lead the standardisation and unification of complex UI/UX configurations across platforms to ensure a consistent user experience and improved developer velocity.
State & Domain Management:
Architect sophisticated application logic using modern patterns such as BLoC, Redux, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
CI/CD & Engineering Operations:
Drive the adoption of automated testing, build pipelines, containerised development environments, and OTA updates to support predictable, stable release cycles.
Technical Leadership:
Act as a technical bridge between engineering, product, and business teams – translating architectural decisions into clear business value.
Team Mentorship & Growth:
Mentor and coach engineers at multiple levels, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, feedback, and engineering excellence.
Hiring & Team Enablement:
Play a key role in hiring top frontend talent and improving onboarding processes to dramatically reduce time-to-productivity.
Modernisation & Optimisation:
Identify bottlenecks in legacy systems and lead migrations to modern frontend stacks, delivering measurable efficiency and cost improvements.
Requirements:
-8+ years of experience in frontend or web development, with significant React experience.
-Proven experience operating in a Lead Engineer, Architect, or Senior Technical role.
-Strong expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript ecosystems.
-Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Node.js, and frontend tooling.
-Solid architectural experience using patterns such as Redux, BLoC, and DDD.
-Experience working on enterprise-scale platforms (finance, logistics, insurance, or similar highly regulated environments preferred).
-Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
-A passion for engineering excellence, automation, and building systems that scale.
Please note: Due to the high volume of applications, only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. If you do not hear from us within two weeks, please consider your application unsuccessful at this time. We thank you for your interest and wish you every success in your career journey.
