Software Engineer(nearshore)

Salt is hiring a freelancer for a client of ours in Amsterdam. This role is Fully remote(nearshore in Europe).

The engineer demonstrates strong coding practices, ownership of services, and a commitment to software quality, reliability, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality software applications using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and related technologies.
• Write clean, maintainable, and reusable code following engineering best practices and design patterns.
• Implement automated testing and ensure code quality through unit, integration, and performance testing.
• Maintain data security, integrity, and compliance with established standards.

System Ownership & Operations

• Own services end-to-end, including deployment, monitoring, performance optimization, and production support.
• Define and monitor application health metrics, alerts, and operational dashboards.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Support continuous delivery and deployment practices to reduce risk and improve customer outcomes.

Incident & Reliability Management

• Investigate and resolve production incidents within agreed service levels.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term reliability improvements.
• Contribute to post-incident reviews and continuous service improvement initiatives.

Solution Design & Architecture

• Contribute to application and system design discussions, balancing business, technical, scalability, and cost considerations.
• Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and approaches to improve engineering effectiveness.
• Design solutions that support current business needs while enabling future growth and extensibility.

Continuous Improvement & Collaboration

• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems, and engineering practices.
• Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor junior team members and promote engineering best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot development.
• Experience building and supporting cloud-native applications on AWS.
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
• Understanding of monitoring, observability, and production support processes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
