Business Development Manager – Mastercard (Payments & Digital Commerce)
The way people pay is changing. Be part of what’s next!
We’re looking for a commercially sharp, relationship-driven Business Development Manager to help drive adoption of some of the most exciting innovations in digital payments, including Click to Pay, Network Tokenisation, and Authentication Solutions.
This isn’t a role for someone who waits for opportunities to appear. You’ll be out in market, opening doors, building relationships, influencing decision-makers, and helping New Zealand merchants unlock the next generation of digital commerce.
If you’re energised by sales, payments technology, and winning new business, this is your chance to work with one of the world’s most recognised payment brands.
What’s in it for you?
- Excellent remuneration
- Immediate start available
- Initial contract through to 31 December 2026, with extension potential
- Amazing location! Modern Auckland CBD offices near the Viaduct
- Hybrid working model (4 days in office preferred)
- Exposure to cutting-edge payment technology shaping the future of commerce!
- High-performance, low-ego culture with access to senior stakeholders across ANZ
The opportunity:
You’ll take ownership of driving growth across Mastercard’s digital acceptance solutions portfolio, with a focus on expanding adoption of Click to Pay, tokenisation and authentication services.
Working closely with local stakeholders and Mastercard’s Australian Customer Solution Centre, you’ll identify opportunities, engage merchants, qualify leads, progress deals through the pipeline, and help bring innovative payment experiences to market.
This is a hands-on business development role where you’ll be trusted to create momentum, build commercial partnerships and turn conversations into revenue.
What you’ll be doing:
- Identify and engage prospective merchant customers across New Zealand
- Build and manage a healthy sales pipeline from prospecting through to close
- Generate qualified opportunities and influence key decision-makers
- Develop strategic relationships with merchants, retailers, acquirers and ecosystem partners
- Drive commercial discussions and support contract negotiations
- Collaborate with account teams to maximise customer adoption and product utilisation
- Partner with Australian counterparts to share insights, opportunities and market learnings
- Track pipeline performance, sales activity and key commercial metrics
- Champion Mastercard’s digital acceptance solutions in-market
What we’re looking for:
- 5+ years’ experience in Business Development, Sales or Commercial Partnerships
- Strong track record of generating and converting new business opportunities
- Experience within payments, fintech, banking, eCommerce or digital commerce environments
- Technical presales capability and confidence discussing payment technologies
- Ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously across varying deal stages
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
- Excellent communication, influencing and presentation capability
- Existing relationships within the New Zealand retail landscape would be highly regarded
- Experience working with merchants, acquirers, PSPs or payment ecosystems is a significant advantage
- Willingness to travel within New Zealand as required (will be minimal)
Apply now or contact Brian White at +64 22 658 5106 for a confidential discussion.
Please note: You must be in Auckland NZ and able to start immediately with the correct working rights.
Due to current volume, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
