CYBERSECURITY ENGINEER / SPECIALIST (CONTRACT)

Location: Centurion (Hybrid)
Contract Duration: 12 Months (with the possibility of extension)
Probation Period: 3 Months

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer/Specialist to support and enhance its cybersecurity control environment across business-critical systems. This role is responsible for maintaining the availability, integrity, performance, monitoring, and security of the organisation’s cybersecurity technology stack, while ensuring alignment with IT and cybersecurity strategies, policies, and governance standards.

The successful candidate will work independently within established frameworks and play a key role in protecting enterprise infrastructure, driving compliance initiatives, and strengthening the organisation’s overall security posture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, support, and optimise the Microsoft Security ecosystem, including Defender XDR, Entra ID, Purview, Intune, MFA, and Security Copilot.
  • Manage and maintain cybersecurity solutions across production and non-production environments.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot ManageEngine solutions, including ADManager, ServiceDesk, and Endpoint Central.
  • Administer and optimise FortiGate firewalls and FortiClient VPN environments.
  • Monitor andmaintainVaronis data security solutions, including:
    • Data Discovery and Classification
    • Exposure and Risk Analysis
    • Threat Detection and Response
    • Cross-cloud integrations
    • Data lifecycle automation
    • Insider threat monitoring and compliance
  • Review and assess SOC/SIEM alerts and ensure remediation actions are executed by relevant stakeholders.
  • Implement and monitor cybersecurity controls across infrastructure, systems, and networks.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and support remediation initiatives.
  • Manage access controls, identity governance, patch management, antivirus updates, and firewall security.
  • Support cybersecurity and infrastructure projects, including planning, implementation, renewals, and change management activities.
  • Produce operational, compliance, and cybersecurity reporting.
  • Maintain governance records, audit evidence, technical documentation, and security standards.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of cybersecurity capabilities, technologies, policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with Infrastructure, Applications, Security, and SOC teams.
  • Support internal and external audit activities.
  • Develop and maintain cybersecurity awareness and training content, including KnowBe4 campaigns.

Minimum Requirements

Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience within Cybersecurity Engineering, Security Operations, Infrastructure Security, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise cybersecurity environments.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity governance, risk management, and compliance requirements.

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Relevant IT Diploma or Degree (advantageous).
  • Microsoft Security certifications such as:
    • SC-200
    • SC-300
    • SC-400
    • Or equivalent certifications
  • Industry certifications such as the following will be advantageous:
    • CISSP
    • CISA
    • CISM
    • CRISC
    • CGEIT
    • CEH
    • CPTE
    • AWS Security Certifications
    • CompTIA Security+
  • Fortinet NSE certification advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Microsoft Defender XDR
    • Microsoft Entra ID
    • Microsoft Purview
    • Microsoft Intune
    • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
    • Microsoft Security Copilot
  • Proven experience with:
    • FortiGate Firewalls
    • FortiClient VPN
    • Varonis Data Security Platform
    • ManageEngine ADManager
    • ManageEngine ServiceDesk
    • ManageEngine Endpoint Central
  • Knowledge of:
    • Identity & Access Management (IAM)
    • Vulnerability Management
    • Risk Assessment & Remediation
    • Security Monitoring & Incident Response
    • Patch Management

Compliance & Governance Knowledge

Experience working within or supporting frameworks such as:

  • ISO 27001 / ISO 2700x
  • NIST
  • COBIT
  • ITIL
  • POPIA
  • GDPR
  • PCI-DSS
  • SOC 2
  • SOX Compliance and SOX ITGC
