Position Summary – Portfolio Manager: Finance (SAP FI / S/4HANA)
Industry: Wholesale & Retail Trade
Location: Pinetown
Contract: Permanent
The Portfolio Manager: Finance is accountable for the end-to-end ownership of the finance technology portfolio, with SAP FI / S/4HANA as the core platform, ensuring that finance systems, products, and capabilities enable business strategy, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
This role provides strategic and operational leadership across a suite of finance-related technology products, overseeing their vision, roadmap, investment prioritisation, and lifecycle management. The incumbent leads and coordinates cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Business Analysts, Systems Analysts, Data Analysts, Solution Architects, and delivery squads to ensure successful build, run, and optimisation of finance solutions.
Acting as a key IT partner to Finance, the role works closely with senior finance stakeholders to translate business strategy and financial requirements into scalable, secure, and well-governed SAP FI solutions. This includes ownership of SAP FI-centric processes such as Record-to-Report, Procure-to-Pay, financial controls, reporting, and period-end close, as well as integration with adjacent SAP modules and third-party systems.
The Portfolio Manager is responsible for governance and vendor management, including oversight of technology partners, system integrators, and managed service providers, ensuring adherence to SLAs, delivery quality, and cost efficiency. The role also plays a critical part in architecture alignment, working with Enterprise Architecture to evaluate solution options, approve designs, and ensure alignment with enterprise standards and the broader technology landscape.
In addition, the role drives continuous improvement across the finance systems ecosystem by monitoring product performance, managing incidents and enhancements in partnership with Service Management, reducing defects through sustainable development practices, and ensuring clear communication through effective change and stakeholder engagement.
This position requires strong SAP FI domain expertise, proven experience managing complex enterprise portfolios in a retail or FMCG environment, and the ability to lead diverse teams while balancing strategic planning with hands-on delivery oversight.
