Sales Executive
Location: Johannesburg (Hybrid)/ Cape Town (Remote)
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a commercially driven and results-oriented Sales Executive to drive revenue growth, expand merchant acceptance, strengthen PSP and banking partnerships, and grow market adoption within the digital payments ecosystem. Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will lead strategic business development initiatives while remaining actively involved in enterprise sales, partnership development, and market expansion.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Commercial Growth
- Develop and execute sales strategies to drive revenue growth and transaction volumes.
- Build and manage a strong sales pipeline, ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting.
- Drive merchant acquisition, onboarding, activation, and retention.
- Identify and pursue opportunities within banks, PSPs, fintechs, retailers, enterprise merchants, and aggregators.
- Lead complex sales cycles from prospecting through to contract negotiation and implementation.
Business Development & Partnerships
- Establish and grow strategic relationships with acquiring banks, payment facilitators, retailers, fintechs, and ecosystem partners.
- Develop go-to-market strategies to increase adoption and market share.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and structure mutually beneficial partnerships.
- Expand the company’s presence within South Africa’s payments landscape.
Industry Representation
- Represent the business at industry events, conferences, fintech forums, and client engagements.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders and senior decision-makers.
- Promote thought leadership within digital payments, QR solutions, acquiring, and fintech sectors.
- Strengthen brand visibility and market positioning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Success teams to ensure successful client onboarding and activation.
- Partner with technical teams during pre-sales engagements.
- Provide market insights to support product development and commercial strategy.
- Improve sales conversion rates and customer onboarding efficiency.
Market Intelligence
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, regulatory developments, and emerging payment technologies.
- Identify opportunities within QR payments, acquiring, PayShap, SoftPOS, and digital payment acceptance solutions.
- Refine value propositions based on customer needs and market conditions.
Minimum Requirements
- 7+ years’ experience in payments, fintech, acquiring, banking, or B2B technology sales.
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales and revenue targets.
- Strong understanding of the South African payments ecosystem.
- Experience managing complex enterprise and partnership sales cycles.
- Existing network within banks, PSPs, fintechs, retailers, or acquiring environments.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial acumen with a hands-on approach to business development.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining actively involved in sales execution.
- High levels of resilience, accountability, and ownership.
- Experience in QR payments, acquiring, payments technology, fintech, or banking environments will be highly advantageous.
