Role Purpose
We are looking for an experienced SAP Datasphere Developer to join our team on an initial 3-6 month project build contract, with the option to extend in an operational support capacity. This role is primarily focused on the extraction, replication, transformation, and provisioning of SAP data to Microsoft Fabric using SAP Datasphere, supporting enterprise data engineering and analytics initiatives. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in SAP data structures, data integration frameworks, and SAP data extraction methods, and will be capable of designing efficient, reliable, and scalable data pipelines.
Essential Requirements
More than 15 years of data engineering, data migration, and ETL experience. A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field. Proven experience in SAP data extraction frameworks including ODP, SLT, CDS Views, and BW extractors. Exposure to and training in SAP Datasphere. Strong experience working with SAP S/4HANA or ECC data structures and tables. Strong understanding of SAP table structures and data models across FI, MM, SD, CO, and related modules. Deep knowledge of SAP data provisioning mechanisms including ODP, SLT replication, and ABAP extractors. Working knowledge of CDS Views for extraction purposes. Strong SQL skills, with SAP HANA SQL preferred. Strong experience with MS Power BI, Azure, and MS SQL Databases. Understanding of delta handling strategies and change data capture (CDC). Familiarity with cloud data architecture principles.
Nice-to-Have
Exposure to SAP integration technologies such as Data Services and SDI. Experience in enterprise data warehousing or data engineering environments.
Core Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain data extraction and replication pipelines from SAP source systems (S/4HANA, ECC, BW, SAP SuccessFactors, etc.) into SAP Datasphere. Configure and manage SAP Datasphere connections using CDS Views, ODP, SLT, and other SAP-native integration technologies. Develop and optimise ABAP-based extractors, CDS Views, and ODP frameworks for efficient data provisioning. Implement delta mechanisms and ensure high-performance data loads. Monitor and troubleshoot data replication jobs and resolve extraction-related performance issues. Ensure data consistency, integrity, and completeness during extraction and staging processes. Support the provisioning of S/4HANA data via Datasphere to Microsoft Fabric. Work closely with SAP Basis and security teams to configure secure connectivity and authorisations. Collaborate with Data Engineers and Architects to align extraction logic with enterprise data architecture standards. Participate in system upgrades, patches, and migration projects affecting data integration. Document data extraction flows, technical specifications, and support procedures.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role based in Umhlanga with the flexibility to work remotely from home. A laptop will be provided. The initial contract is 3-6 months for the project build phase, with the option to extend in an ongoing operational support capacity. Client details are kept confidential.
