12-Month Contract | AWS | Build, Advise, Influence
We’re looking for an AWS Cloud Security SME who doesn’t just point at problems – you design, build, automate and own the solution.
This is a 360° cloud security role operating in a centralised cloud platform team. You’ll sit at the intersection of Cloud, Cyber and Engineering – advising on secure design, building scalable security capabilities, and shaping how cloud security is done at enterprise scale.
If you’re someone who enjoys ambiguity, wears multiple hats, and thrives in environments where you can truly own your space – keep reading.
The Opportunity
You’ll operate as a senior engineer in a specialist cloud security function, responsible for building automated security capabilities across AWS.
This is not a policy-only role.
This is not a ticket-queue role.
This is engineering-first cloud security.
You’ll:
- Act as the AWS Cloud Security SME
- Design and build secure, scalable cloud patterns
- Read and understand Python code (and contribute where required)
- Work closely with DevOps teams using GitHub CI/CD pipelines
- Drive security uplift across vulnerability management, detection engineering, IAM and network security
- Operate autonomously with real ownership
You’ll advise.
You’ll design.
You’ll build.
What Makes This Role Different
- AI-first mindset – You’ll be responsible for validating and governing AI-generated outputs in engineering workflows.
- You think beyond technical controls – you understand people, process, and influence.
- You can compromise when needed, but you don’t compromise on risk.
- You balance workload effectively and operate with high ownership.
- You’re comfortable chartering ambiguity and shaping direction.
- You’re curious – always learning, always improving.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build automated cloud security solutions in AWS
- Develop and enhance security guardrails and self-service capabilities
- Partner with engineering squads to bake in security from design to deployment
- Influence architecture decisions with a security-first lens
- Contribute to DevSecOps practices via GitHub-based CI/CD
- Mentor and uplift DevOps capability across the broader cloud team
- Take accountability for outcomes – not just recommendations
What You’ll Bring
- Strong AWS security experience (multi-account environments ideal)
- Experience working within a centralised cloud platform team
- Python – ability to read, understand, and assess code
- CI/CD experience (GitHub preferred)
- Solid understanding of cloud networking fundamentals
- Exposure to vulnerability management, detection engineering, IAM, incident response
- Strong documentation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to operate independently and influence senior engineers
Bonus points for AWS Security or Architecture certifications.
The Type of Person Who Thrives Here
- You’re an owner, not an order-taker.
- You think strategically but execute tactically.
- You’re comfortable being the expert in the room.
- You challenge respectfully.
- You’re collaborative but decisive.
- You enjoy building things that scale.
If you’re ready to step into a role where you can truly shape cloud security rather than just maintain it – let’s talk.
