Role Overview:
This is a leadership role in which your direct reports will be engineering managers and senior engineers of the team. As a senior engineering manager, you will be accountable for leading and growing a team of 5 – 10 engineers.
To excel in this role, you need to drive strategic technical, delivery, and people decisions for the team by collaborating with cross-functional counterparts and stakeholders and considering inputs from various parties, most notably from the customers. You are also expected to coach and nurture your team, including but not limited to managers who report to you. In this role, you will be responsible for building solutions, evolving our business, and leading its digital transformation, optimizing the top-line and bottom-line.
What You Will Do:
- Drive business strategy along with cross-functional counterparts & work with team members to convert that into OKRs
- Work closely with your counterparts to ensure the team’s deliverables fit well into broader organization objectives.
- Represent and be accountable for the technical output of the team and drive to improve specific business KPIs.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant domain expertise to the team and drive engineering quality.
- Work with multiple teams to solve complex technological problems, bring insights, and drive engineering strategy.
- Mentor teams w.r.t engineering practices and architectures and strengthen the team by improving the ability to deliver outstanding quality of work and keep the high bar of craft
- Pair with team members on functional and non-functional requirements and spread design philosophy and goals across the team
What You Will Need:
- At least eight years of hands-on experience in building scalable engineering solutions, including 4+ years of experience in mentoring teams.
- Experience working on production-grade distributed systems and microservices architecture, RESTful services, and CI/CD.
- Have worked across the various cloud operators and understand the benefits and tradeoffs of using different aspects of infrastructure management. While you don’t need in-depth knowledge of every moving part, having a general understanding should help you decide what to use and where to use it.
- Good understanding of distributed system fundamentals and ability to troubleshoot issues in a larger distributed infrastructure.
- Experience with Agile teams and familiarity with extreme programming
- Excellent understanding of interactive application development paradigm, memory management, performance/resource optimizations, database interactions, concurrency and multithreading, fault tolerance, and monitoring of systems.
