Senior Quality Engineer (Test Automation)

About the Role

Salt is partnering with a global technology-driven marketing and data organization to hire a Senior QA Automation Engineer for a 6-month contract opportunity in Malaysia.

This role is ideal for a hands-on QA Automation Engineer with strong Playwright, TypeScript/ JavaScript, API testing, and SQL experience. You will work closely with Product Owners, Developers, and QA team members to support and stabilize an internal project while strengthening the existing automation framework.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and maintain automated and manual test cases across UI, API, database validation, and user acceptance testing.
• Work hands-on with Playwright to support and enhance existing automation frameworks.
• Create clear test cases, including BDD-style scenarios, based on user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Perform API testing and validation using tools such as Postman, RestAssured, or equivalent.
• Write and execute SQL queries to support data validation and testing activities.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Developers, and QA team members in a Kanban delivery environment.
• Support CI/CD testing practices and contribute to automation execution within release pipelines.
• Identify testing gaps, raise defects clearly, and help improve overall product quality.
• Work independently with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a senior QA team.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience in Playwright within a production environment.
• Solid experience with TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Experience in both UI automation and API testing.
• Working knowledge of SQL for database validation and test verification.
• Strong understanding of testing types including functional, integration, system, regression, UAT, API, UI, and database testing.
• Ability to create structured test cases from user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Experience working in Agile environments; Kanban experience is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with Product and Engineering teams.
• Must be based in Malaysia and able to start in June or on short notice.

Nice-to-Have

• Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and similar.
• Experience with Postman, RestAssured, or API automation frameworks.
• Basic familiarity with AI-assisted testing tools or using AI to generate, triage, or document test cases.
• Prior experience in product, SaaS, fintech, e-commerce, or platform engineering environments.
