Software Engineer

Salt is currently hiring a Senior Software Engineer for a client of ours in Amsterdam.

This is a contract role for 6 month, preferred for Amsterdam, but also open to remote within Europe.

Senior Software Engineer Consultant (Java & Python)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer Consultant to design and deliver production-grade identifier libraries in Java and Python, while contributing to a resolver service that enables consistent identifier management across a large-scale data platform.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building foundational platform capabilities, creating robust developer experiences, and establishing standards that can be adopted across multiple teams and services.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop equivalent Java and Python libraries for identifier management.
• Create APIs that support canonical, extension, and nested/composite identifiers.
• Implement robust parsing, validation, and error-handling mechanisms with clear developer feedback.
• Develop and maintain a catalog-driven model for identifier definitions, validation rules, and metadata.
• Define versioning, compatibility, and release-management practices.
• Build comprehensive automated test suites and CI/CD quality checks.
• Produce clear documentation, implementation examples, and adoption guidelines.
• Partner with architects and domain teams to onboard and model new identifier types.
• Contribute to resolver service APIs and mapping logic that translate between canonical and extension identifiers where external resolution is required.
• Drive delivery from technical design through MVP implementation, production rollout, and stabilization.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience developing software in both Java and Python.
• Proven track record building reusable libraries, SDKs, frameworks, or platform components.
• Excellent API design, parsing, validation, testing, and software quality practices.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience designing or working with schemas, metadata models, catalogs, naming conventions, identity systems, or related platform services.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple teams.
• Self-sufficient and comfortable owning complex technical deliverables end-to-end.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with Kafka or event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of data lineage, metadata management, data catalog, or knowledge graph technologies.
• Familiarity with identity, resource naming, or entity resolution frameworks.
• Experience publishing, versioning, and maintaining multi-language packages and developer tooling.
• Open-source contributions or experience driving developer adoption of shared platform standards.
