A well‑established, growing service‑based business is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Officer to join their team on a short‑term contract. This role has been created to support the finance function during a high‑volume period and clear a backlog of aged purchase orders and rejected invoices.

This is a hands‑on opportunity for an AP professional who enjoys getting stuck in, bringing order to complexity, and working through issues to resolution.

About the role

You’ll bring your savvy working knowledge of Accounts Payable and ‘can do’ attitude to support the rest of the finance team (based in Australia). There is a volume of aged POs, rejected invoices, and suppliers awaiting payment that need to be worked through to clear the backlog and help the function regain momentum.

You’ll work closely with service teams, internal stakeholders, suppliers, and an offshore AP team to resolve outstanding issues and ensure invoices can be processed and paid.

Key responsibilities

  • Work through aged purchase orders and rejected invoices
  • Investigate why invoices are blocked, rejected, or unpaid
  • Run AP and aging reports to identify outstanding items
  • Liaise directly with suppliers to resolve holds and payment issues
  • Partner with service coordinators and managers to resolve discrepancies
  • Engage with an offshore AP team where required
  • Support multiple New Zealand branches with AP queries
  • Work independently and keep issues moving through to resolution

About you

You’re practical, confident, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced service environment. You’re not afraid to pick up the phone, ask questions, and follow things through.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong end‑to‑end Accounts Payable experience
  • Proven experience clearing aged items and resolving invoice discrepancies
  • Excellent attention to detail and investigative skills
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction

Systems and skills

  • Solid understanding of AP and ERP workflows
  • CRM experience (Baseplan preferred, but not essential)
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (formulas, VLOOKUPs, pivot tables)

What’s on offer

  • Immediate start
  • $32-36p/h based on experience
  • Clearly defined contract focused on delivery
  • Friendly team
  • Onsite parking
