BI Analyst

BI Analyst | Contract | 12 Months | Cape Town (Hybrid)

About the Role

A leading global investment firm with a significant Cape Town presence is looking for a skilled BI Analyst to join their technology team. This role sits at the intersection of data and investment decision-making – translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights that support portfolio monitoring, risk management, and investment operations. You’ll report into the Senior Reporting Analyst / Head of Reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports for investment, risk, and operations teams
• Monitor portfolio performance, cash flows, and credit risk metrics through data-driven analysis
• Automate recurring reporting processes to improve speed, accuracy, and transparency
• Partner with investment professionals to translate business requirements into BI solutions
• Work with IT and data engineering teams to optimise data pipelines and database structures
• Conduct ad-hoc analysis on investment, performance, and market-related questions
• Maintain data accuracy and integrity across all reporting outputs

Technical Requirements

• Advanced proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik
• Strong SQL skills for complex data extraction and transformation
• Data modelling experience – star schema, snowflake schema
• Hands-on ETL experience
• Strong Excel skills including Power Query and VBA
• Snowflake experience advantageous

Domain Knowledge

• Understanding of asset management and investment strategies across public and private markets, fixed income, alternatives, and structured products
• Familiarity with the investment lifecycle – research, portfolio construction, trade execution, performance attribution
• Ability to work with data from financial statements, market data providers, and portfolio management systems

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years in BI, data analytics, or investment operations – ideally within private credit, private equity, or asset management
• Proven track record delivering BI solutions that drive tangible business outcomes
