The role:
- These are new roles, as it is required to support the Data and Analytics workstream approved scope of work and the wider organisation’s enterprise Data Maturity uplift.
- They will be focused on establishment of the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) and which incorporates the strategic technology platforms of Snowflake, Informatica and Airflow. Build and operate core data platforms – administer and optimise Snowflake, AirFlow and SAS Grid to deliver scalable, reliable enterprise analytics platforms.
- Engineer end-to-end data pipelines – design transformations using dbt, orchestrate workflows with Airflow, and apply strong testing and DataOps practices.
- Enable cloud-scale, self-service analytics – apply modern data warehousing patterns, automation, and DevOps principles to support trusted data products across MSD.
- Lead through engineering impact – mentor engineers, collaborate with analysts and stakeholders, and deliver data solutions that directly support better decisions for New Zealanders.
- This role will join the Data and Analytics workstream and be part of an existing team of 20-30 members with an expectation of expansion to support the approved scope of work.
- The Data and Analytics workstream is recently established with it scope being approved in March 2026. It has been focused on establishing the high-level designs of critical capabilities required to support the VD2 delivery and is moving into a staged implementation phase of these critical capabilities. These capabilities include establishment of a Data Stewardship, Enterprise Data Quality, Cloud Data Governance and Catalogue and Master Data Management and an Enterprise Data Platform – EDP.

The ideal candidate:
- Apart from standard Microsoft Productivity Suite – Experience with the following:
- Experience administering Snowflake, SAS Viya and SAS Grid.
- Experience in using Dbt Core for transformation, test cases
- Experience in using Airflow for orchestration.
- Proficiency in languages such as SQL, Python (for automation, scripting and data manipulation)
- Knowledge of modern data warehousing architecture
- Knowledge of Dev/Ops or DataOps principles, practices and tools
