About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Service Technician to join a high-performing team in Timaru. Reporting to the Service Manager, this role is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of agricultural and construction machinery, both in the workshop and on-site.

This is a varied, hands-on position offering a mix of technical challenge, customer interaction, and fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of machinery and equipment
  • Identify mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and instruments
  • Access service and parts information using computer systems, including machine diagnostics
  • Dismantle, repair, and rebuild components to manufacturer specifications
  • Complete all administrative and service documentation accurately and on time
  • Collaborate with internal teams to meet workflow and production deadlines
  • Travel to client sites as required
  • Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Deliver professional, ethical, and customer-focused service

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic capability
  • Excellent technical and mechanical skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Commitment to safety and quality

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in a mechanical repair workshop
  • Experience with agricultural or construction machinery

Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualification in heavy machinery, automotive, or diesel mechanics

Desirable

  • Background in agricultural or construction equipment
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Good record-keeping and administrative ability
  • A proactive, technically curious mindset
