Engineering Manager – AI
Location: Remote – USA

About the Opportunity

We’re partnering with a global cybersecurity technology company focused on protecting critical infrastructure, enterprise networks, and connected systems against evolving digital threats.

The company is building a new engineering team to tackle complex challenges at the intersection of high-performance systems, real-time data processing, and applied machine learning. This is an opportunity to join at the ground level, shape the technical direction, and establish the engineering culture and standards that will define the team as it grows.

The Role

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager who combines strong technical judgment with hands-on, AI-native leadership. You’ll build and lead a small, high-performing team of software engineers and data scientists developing latency-sensitive services and machine learning capabilities that operate directly within critical production workflows.

This is a player-coach position for someone who can move comfortably between technical decisions, team development, and delivery ownership. You’ll have the autonomy to define how the team operates, establish a high hiring bar, and turn an ambitious, initially undefined charter into reliable production software.

AI proficiency is essential. We’re looking for a leader who actively uses AI to accelerate engineering work and knows how to embed AI-enabled practices into a team’s everyday workflows, expectations, and development standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Build the team from the ground up: Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineers and data scientists, establishing the standards and culture for a growing team.

  • Lead technical execution: Partner with senior engineers to define architecture, evaluate trade-offs, and guide solutions across high-throughput systems, real-time processing, and applied ML.

  • Make AI a core engineering advantage: Demonstrate effective use of AI in your own work while coaching the team to integrate AI tools and workflows into their development lifecycle.

  • Own delivery end to end: Translate ambiguous objectives into clear priorities, execution plans, and measurable outcomes without compromising engineering quality.

  • Maintain production excellence: Take responsibility for the reliability, performance, and behavior of systems after deployment, not just whether they pass testing.

  • Develop high-performing engineers: Provide technical mentorship, strengthen individual ownership, and build a team capable of delivering exceptional results independently.

  • Set a high engineering bar: Establish expectations for code quality, technical rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement as the organization scales.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8-10+ years of engineering experience, including meaningful experience leading teams responsible for delivering and operating production systems.

  • A strong technical foundation in software engineering, distributed systems, machine learning, or a combination of these areas, with the ability to engage deeply in complex technical discussions and reviews.

  • Demonstrable, hands-on proficiency with AI-powered engineering tools and workflows, along with experience or a clear track record of enabling teams to use AI to significantly improve productivity and execution.

  • Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and developing both engineers and technical specialists.

  • The ability to lead through ambiguity, establish direction where little structure exists, and drive initiatives from initial concept through production.

  • A strong sense of ownership, sound technical judgment, and a commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality software.

  • A leadership style that balances hands-on technical involvement with trust, delegation, and accountability.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Build from day one: Shape the team, its culture, and its technical foundations.

  • Solve challenging engineering problems: Work on high-performance systems and applied ML in demanding, real-world production environments.

  • Lead an AI-native team: Help define how AI can fundamentally improve the way engineering teams build and deliver software.

  • Have meaningful ownership: Influence technical direction, hiring decisions, team development, and product outcomes.

  • Work remotely: Collaborate with a distributed team across the Americas.

We’re looking for a leader who wants to build something exceptional-not simply manage an existing team, but create the conditions for a small group of talented people to deliver outsized impact.
